The Kuwajima Fossil Bluff is a fossil area from the Early Cretaceous Period of the Mesozoic Era (146 to 66 million years ago) and a National Natural Monument. This place is often called the birthplace of geology in Japan, because it was the subject of the first paleontological paper to estimate the age of a Japanese rock from its fossils. It is an internationally important place to study diverse paleoenvironments in the Mesozoic Era because a large variety of fossil plants, reptiles and mammals as well as dinosaurs have been found there.
Although access to the wall is restricted for safety, a view spot is available beside the wall.
