Bunao Mountain Observation Building
Bunaoyama Kansatsusha
The Bunao Mountain Observation Building is the only facility in the country equipped to let visitors watch wildlife in nature. The building, located across the river from Mt. Bunao, is open from late Autumn to Spring, where the fallen leaves and snow provide a clear view of the animals naturally existing on the mountain. Japanese Macaque, serow deer, golden eagles and bears are just some of the animals that can be seen with the telescopes and binoculars set up in the facility. You may even see an avalanche. Try searching for animals yourself, or ask the trained staff to point some out - they’re always keeping a close watch!
The Bunao Mountain Observation Building opens when the Chugu Museum closes in the winter, so be sure to visit one or the other, depending on when you visit.
