Located along the Hakusan Shirakawa-go White Road, Mt. Sanpouiwa, at 1,736m altitude, offers excellent views, and can be accessed via two different hiking trails. With parking and toilets available at the base (flushing toilets are available at the Toganokidai Parking Lot), visitors can hike to the top of the mountain in roughly 45 minutes from the Sanpouiwa Parking Lot, or 1.5 hours from the Toganokidai Parking Lot. From there, Mt. Hakusan and the surrounding valley open up before your eyes, with steep cliffs offering fantastic photo opportunities.
You can also see dwarf pine scrub, and many different species of alpine plants and flowers. From Mt. Sanpouiwa, several other hiking trails spread out, some even eventually reaching Mt. Hakusan.
